What Is a Fire-Rated Digital Lock? Is It Compulsory?
A fire-rated digital lock is designed to withstand fire and high temperatures for a specific period, such as 30 minutes, without compromising the fire resistance of the door.
For a normal replacement of a mechanical lock with a digital lock, a fire-rated digital lock is generally not required.
However, if you are installing a new HDB fire-rated main door, especially for units near a lift lobby or staircase, fire-safety requirements may apply. The digital lock should be compatible with the fire-rated door and meet the required fire-resistance rating.
Why Does It Matter?
A fire-rated door helps contain fire and smoke inside your unit, giving you and your neighbours more time to evacuate safely. The digital lock should therefore not melt or fail prematurely and compromise the door’s fire resistance.
With increasing concerns over e-scooter and battery fires, choosing a properly tested fire-rated digital lock can provide greater peace of mind.

How Long Can Lenovo & Lusano Digital Locks Withstand Fire?
Our Lenovo and Lusano digital locks have undergone fire-resistance testing by PSB Singapore, using doors supplied by a major HDB door developer.
Following the testing, our digital locks can be specified for use with compatible fire-rated doors for BTO, HIP and condominium projects, with the digital lock included in the relevant fire certification where applicable.

A Message From the Director of My Digital Lock
As the Director of My Digital Lock, I entered this industry at 19 and have witnessed almost every generation of digital locks.
If a digital lock is poor in quality or unsuitable for our customers, we simply will not sell it.
To us, fire-rated certification is not the only measure of a good digital lock. Long-term reliability, durability, after-sales support and whether spare parts are available are equally important.
Some brands may promote fire-rated digital locks, but if the original factory has discontinued the model, who will repair it or honour the warranty years later?
I also believe fire safety should focus on getting people out safely, not simply keeping a door locked during a fire. Different countries have different fire-safety standards and approaches, which is why we believe the testing standard itself deserves careful consideration.
We will never take shortcuts or make questionable claims just to put a “fire-rated” label on a product.
If a lock is not good enough, we will not sell it.
If we cannot stand behind it, we will not put our name on it.
